The key to the success of certain programmes is the way they break with tradition, creating subtle interplays and meaningful links between composers from different periods. This is exactly what the Chinese-American pianist Eric Lu does with his meticulously chosen selection. This talented young man was a prizewinner at the Chopin Competition in Warsaw at the age of just 17, and now arrives in Europe with a full schedule of eagerly awaited début performances. He is tackling works by Schubert and Chopin, which purposely enter into dialogue with two undisputed masters of our own times: Helmut Lachenmann and Thomas Adès.
