NDR Radio Philharmonie

Concertmaster Kathrin Rabus: „For me, it’s all about the diversity of the repertoire: it’s both a huge challenge and such a joy. The constant changes among all the musical genres allow us to keep things fresh. Thus we’re always excited about what is coming up next and of course that keeps the artistical quality at the highest possible level. It’s fantastic.”

Another area which is of high importance to the NDR Radiophilharmonie is the wide range of concert series and innovative projects for children and youths.

Taking a look at the orchestra’s illustrious history, it becomes clear, that the unique combination of quality and diversity has a long tradition. Founded in 1950 as the orchestra of Hannover broadcasting, the roots of the NDR Radiophilharmonie go back to the 1920s when Hannover’s first radio station was launched. Due to the special requirements of radio broadcasting, right from the very early days on, diversity was crucial.

Thus, the list of leading artist whom the NDR Radiophilharmonie has collaborated with is as divers and impressive as the orchestra itself, ranging from stars like Anne-Sophie Mutter, Hélène Grimaud, Hilary Hahn, Philippe Jaroussky or Rudolf Buchbinder over sensational conductors like Gustavo Dudamel, Andris Nelsons, Kristjan Järvi or Cornelius Meister to Jazz legends like Al Jarreau and Chet Baker – to mention just a few.

Also, the NDR Radiophilharmonie has strengthened its international profile with concerts in the whole of Europe as well as in Japan, South America and Abu Dhabi. Worth mentioning also are guest invitations to the International Bergen Festival, the Pisa Festival, the renowned Klubhaus concerts in Switzerland or London’s Royal Albert Hall.

The season 2014/2015 sees Andrew Manze as the new Chief Conductor who will continue the orchestra’s unique artistical work.
