Born in Munich, Markus Poschner won the German Conductors’ Award in 2004, since when he has guest conducted regularly with the most renowned orchestras nationally and internationally. Today he is particularly esteemed for his remarkable interpretations and recordings of works by Beethoven, Brahms, Bruckner, Strauss and Mahler.

 

After studies in Munich, he worked as assistant to Sir Roger Norrington and Sir Colin Davis, and from 2006 he was Erster Kapellmeister at the Komische Oper Berlin. From 2007 to 2017 he was General Music Director of the Bremen Philharmonic.

 

In 2015 Markus Poschner assumed the position of Principal Conductor of the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana in Lugano. Under his leadership, in the 2016/17 season the orchestra made its first European tour which was also the occasion of the issue of the DVD of his Brahms cycle. This recording garnered enthusiastic reviews and in 2018 it received the distinguished ICMA Award.

 

At the beginning of the 2017/18 season Markus Poschner also assumed the position of Chief Conductor of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz and Music Director of the Landestheater Linz. In addition he enjoys close artistic partnerships with numerous orchestras and opera houses, including the Staatsoper Berlin, Frankfurt Opera and Zurich Opera.
