Mahan Esfahani

Mahan Esfahani (b. 1984) studied musicology and history at Stanford before studying the harpsichord privately and finishing his formation with the celebrated Zuzana Ruzickova in Prague. He was the first harpsichordist to be a BBC New Generation Artist (2008-2010) and to win a prize from the Borletti-Buitoni Trust; since then his pioneering work for the instrument has taken him to the major recital halls of the globe as well as a concerto soloist in the totality of the repertoire for his instrument. A particular interest focuses on new music for the harpsichord; the 2016-17 season alone sees two new concerto commissions and further work with electronics, with engagements in the United States, Australia, the People's Republic of China, Japan, Germany, the Scandinavian countries, and the United Kingdom in mainstream halls outside of the usual environment for the harpsichord. When not performing he also teaches at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
