Dima Slobodeniouk

Dima Slobodeniouk

In February 2013 Dima Slobodeniouk

was appointed Music Director of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia from 2013/14 season.

Concerts in his first season include soloists Vilde Frang, Elizabeth Leonskaja and the choir of

La Coruna.

During 2013/14 Slobodeniouk forges new partnerships with Orchestre National de Radio France

with soloist Viktoria Mullova, SWR Stuttgart with Jorg Widmann, Residentie Orchestra with Vadim Gluzman, Trondheim Symphony with Baiba Skride, and Lutoslawski Philharmonic Wroclaw with Dejan Lazic. A highly favoured guest conductor Slobodeniouk returns to the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra appearing in Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw with soloist Baiba Skride, RAI Turin with Sergei Krylov and Yuja Wang, Netherlands Philharmonic with Quirine Viersen, Lucerne Symphony/Yevgeny Sudbin, Ulster Orchestra with Colin Currie and Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo with Martin Helmchen. Eagerly anticipated returns to Finland include Finnish Radio Symphony, Helsinki and Turku Philharmonics, and Tapiola Sinfonietta.

Highlights of the 2012/13 season include debuts with the Oslo and Bergen Philharmonics, the

Orchestre National de Belgique, London’s Philharmonia and after impressive debuts over recent

seasons with Cincinnati Symphony and St Paul Chamber Orchestras his Baltimore Symphony

Orchestra debut resulted in an immediate invitation.

The 2013/14 again demonstrates Slobodeniouk’s impressive skill across a broad field of repertoire from Lotta Wennäkoski (Helsinki), Rautavaara (Ulster), Widmann (Stuttgart) Lutoslowski (Amsterdam), Tiensuu (London), to the core repertoire including Brahms, Dvorak, Shostakovich, Strauss and Wagner. With Avanti! chamber ensemble in Spring 2013, he brings these ambassadors of new music, featuring works of the young Estonian Helena Tulva, Larcher, Lindberg and Salonen, to Vienna for his debut concerts in Vienna’s Konzerthaus.

Slobodeniouk is becoming widely appreciated for his collaborations with peer composers. The

Finnish composer Sebastian Fagerlund is presented on the BIS label conducted by Slobodeniouk with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra (released in Spring 2011 to impressive reviews).

Slobodeniouk, Moscow-born, studied violin at the Central Music School under Zinaida Gilels

and J. Chugajev continuing at the Conservatory’s Music Institute, Moscow in 1989 and at the

Middle Finland’s Conservatory and the Sibelius Academy under Olga Parhomenko. In 1994,

Slobodeniouk started conducting studies participating in the class of Atso Almila. He continued

studies at the Sibelius Academy under the guidance of Leif Segerstam, Jorma Panula and Atso Almila. He has also studied under Ilja Musinin and Esa-Pekka Salonen. As Principal Conductor

of the Oulu Symphony (2005-2008) Slobodeniouk led both concerts and opera productions.
